Fundraising
Richa Gawande
I am a dedicated high school student with a passion for medicine, youth advocacy, and community service. After earning my black belt in karate during training in Japan, I’ve continued to channel that discipline into leadership and impact-driven work. For the past three years, I’ve fundraised for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, personally raising over $8,500 and helping my teams raise more than $22,000. Now serving on the Junior Leadership Committee, I support upcoming campaigns and mentor new fundraisers. As Vice President of WeCare, a women’s empowerment nonprofit, I helped organize efforts to fund HPV vaccinations for girls and women in India in partnership with Veerni. I also compete in DECA and am deeply interested in pursuing a career in pediatrics, where I can combine my love for medicine with my passion for supporting children and underserved communities.

Passionate about computational biology research and flute performance, I won 1st place in Microbiology at the Washington State Science and Engineering Fair, earned an $80,000 scholarship to Ohio Wesleyan University, and was named WSSEF Grand Champion—qualifying me for the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair. As a Sports Medicine Mentor in HOSA, I develop study guides, lead prep sessions, and also co-organize Brave Beginnings webinars on eating-disorder awareness. I served as principal piccolo in the Bellevue Youth Symphony Orchestra, qualified for the WMEA All-State Symphony Orchestra, volunteer as a reading buddy for K–5 students, and have fundraised $10,000 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society as a Student Visionary.
